June 2 minutes were approved

Discussed Village Picnic:

We confirmed job responsibilities that were determined in June. Teresa and Wendy will meet independently to finalize game activities and items that will be needed.

Other events suggested for the picnic were: picnic table assembly race, and ask a local Boy Scout troop to build a rope bridge and demonstrate bridge and knots during the picnic.

Park tour

The mystery of the benches has been solved. Eagle Scout Collin Griffiths and his Solon troop #504 were involved of making and installing two park benches and the spreading wood chips along a path. We thank them for their service. The Mayor will be asked to recognize them at the next Council meeting along with a thank you letter.

We observed the eastern end to determine the path Jeff Filarski suggested. There will be a minimal mowed path to the nearest point of the river from the bottom of the road off of the sled hill. The path will be carefully placed to protect natural vegetation and wildlife. The purpose is to have one vantage point at the river to enjoy the natural river setting. It was suggested instead of a natural log bench that stone would be used. We need to follow up on the stone to ensure this would be acceptable within the riparian setback.

Park Sign

It was stated that the Metroparks would be willing to make a sign at cost if a design was provided by the Village. The committee voted and passed that at this time we do not want to pursue a sign for the Park. The discussion included whether there was a need, and esthetics.

McFarland Homestead

Ken Kvacek provided a brochure and packet of materials about the historical value of the McFarland home. His presentation was very informative and we thank him for his contribution. We toured the McFarland home. It was determined that the site did not appear to be in distress but in need of attention. The committee voted and passed to recommend that an extension be given on any demolition. The extension will allow the opportunity to generate interest in efforts to revive this historical landmark.

Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m
