Today’s employees demand more recycling options in the workplace than ever before – whether they work in a traditional office, school or nonprofit. Sadly, oftentimes employers don’t know what to do or how to structure a recycling program that works. The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District solves that problem with a free and open-to-the-public “Waste & Recycling Sense for Business” seminar on June 4 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at District headquarters at 4750 East. 131st Street, Garfield Heights. Register at https://cuyahogarecycles.org/biz_seminar_June4.
The two-part session is comprised of Successful Recycling in Your Workplace from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Negotiating Waste and Recycling Services from 6:30 to 7:30. Participants may register for one or both sessions.
In Successful Recycling in Your Workplace, attendees will learn how to conduct a waste audit and analyze the results along with how to choose indoor waste receptacles and signage. Other topics include:
- Choosing a waste hauling and recycling company.
- Best practices for educating employees, students and visitors about the program.
- Tips for changing current recycling behaviors to more successful activities.
- How to market your recycling program to stakeholders.
- Keeping your recycling program sustainable.
In Negotiating Waste and Recycling Services group leaders will focus on:
- What do those contract terms and conditions mean?
- Types of contracts.
- Explanation of fee structures.
- Best practices for structuring an agreement best suited for your organization.
The sessions are led by the District’s Business Recycling Specialist Doreen Schreiber. Schreiber is a seasoned waste management specialist with over 15 years of industry experience. She has been helping businesses implement cost-effective and environmentally-friendly waste management programs since 2006. Schreiber also is certified as a Zero Waste Business Associate through the United States Zero Waste Business Council.
